Hello Cavalier Family!
We kick off a new year of Junipero Serra athletics in 2018-2019 and it should be a fantastic year for each one of our programs. The foundation throughout all of our sports programs is that each of our teams will compete at the highest level and represent the Serra community well. The success of each program is the result of the hard work that the players put forth on the field, court, track, weight room, and the classroom. The student-athletes here at Junipero Serra benefit greatly from the amazing coaching staff in each and every program. In all programs the student-athletes learn about teamwork, discipline, dedication, preparation, and hard work. These life skills not only benefit our Serra student-athletes in their sport, but in school and prepare them for life beyond Serra.
The fall will be full of touchdowns, aces, field goals, kills, and wonderful three-mile courses. Football enters its third full season in Division 1 and hopes to build upon last year’s thrilling playoff game against Corona Centennial. Girls’ volleyball has a young team this year made up of all underclassman, who are working hard to build a championship culture. Cross country returns this fall with both boys and girls teams.
The winter is all about the round ball, both basketball and soccer! Girls’ basketball comes into the season fresh off a state championship season. Boys basketball is looking to improve on the impressive season they had with their eye on returning to state. Boys’ soccer continues to show signs of growth and is excited about the season they have ahead of them.
The spring is always a busy time of year for Serra athletics. Baseball made huge strides and have a championship caliber team this season. Softball is returning the majority of the team who won the school’s first ever softball CIF championship last year! Boys’ track was impressive and placed well throughout the season. Girl’s track had a magical run by capturing a CIF and state championship last season.
The success of the entire Serra athletic department would not be possible without the support of many people. The Booster Club, development staff, administration, parents, donors, and training staff put in countless hours and their dedication is greatly appreciated. All who are interested in becoming involved with our athletic programs are welcomed and should contact our Booster Club president, Mrs. Carolyn Madera. If you are interested in donating funds to help support the athletic department, which would help us make the experience even better for our student-athletes, please contact Mr. Joe Cormier in the development office.
I am excited to be a part of the Serra family and help grow the rich history of Serra athletics by the people who came before me. I look forward to seeing you at each one of our programs games as we continue to grow, compete, and represent Serra this year.
