Cavalier Athletics
Message from the Director of Athletics
Hello Serra Family!
As we begin a new school year at Junípero Serra High School, we enter this season with renewed purpose and unwavering focus. It is the start of what promises to be a formidable year for Serra Athletics. One grounded in discipline, preparation, and pride. Each of our programs is built on the expectation that we will not only compete at the highest level, but do so with integrity, humility, and honor. I step into the role of Director of Athletics with a deep sense of duty to uphold Serra’s legacy, to restore the standard of excellence, and to lead our athletic community with a Christ-centered purpose. This is more than a role; it is a calling. Together, we will raise the bar, not just in competition, but in character.
The success of our athletic programs is forged through the daily grind, the quiet, unseen work done on the field, court, track, weight room, and in the classroom. Our student-athletes understand that excellence is earned, not given. They are shaped by the tireless dedication of a coaching staff committed to forming young men and women of strength, discipline, and resolve. At Serra, sport is not simply about victory; it is critical for growth. Through the trials of training and competition, our student-athletes gain the virtues of teamwork, resilience, and sacrifice, lessons that endure long after the final whistle. Here, we don’t just build athletes. We forge leaders prepared to meet the demands of life beyond Serra.
I am Artis Perry Jr., and I began my journey at Serra High School in 2010. Since 2021, I have served as our Head Baseball Coach. Born and raised in Inglewood, California, I attended Hawthorne High School, where I was honored as a two-time league MVP and a three-time All-Area First Team selection.
My passion for sports led me to compete at the collegiate level, playing baseball for West Los Angeles College, Cal State Dominguez Hills, and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications and a Master’s Degree in Communication with an emphasis in Education from Grand Canyon University.
Beyond coaching, I’ve had the privilege of working at the professional level, serving as a Major League Baseball scout for six years with the Atlanta Braves and two years with the Boston Red Sox.
