It was announced on Wednesday, May 15 that Serra has three Cavaliers who were named All-Americans in the sports that they participated. In Baseball, Mahki Backstrom and Damone Hale made the grade, being named among the best in the nation, and in Track Jazmyne Frost has made her name known as one of the elite runners in the country.
Backstrom, who is headed to Fresno State to study and play baseball on a full scholarship, led the Cavaliers with 5 home runs, batted .276, and had a .434 on-base-percentage, .539 slugging percentage, 21 RBI and 10 stolen bases.
Hale, who is headed to Michigan on a full-ride scholarship to study and play baseball, led the Cavaliers with a .388 batting average, 24 RBI, and 21 stolen bases, hit 2 home runs, and had a .495 on-base-percentage and .587 slugging percentage.
Leading the way for Cavalier Track was Frost who has been a track standout during her entire time at Serra. This year, Frost won the 100 meters at the Mt. Carmel and Mt. SAC Invitationals, the 200 meters at Mt. Carmel, was the League Champion in the 100, 200 and 4x100 meters, and was the CIF Division IV Champion in the 100 meters. This is in addition to her having led the Serra Cavalier Girls Track team to a 2018 State Championship.
When asked about how they felt about being named All-Americans, all three expressed surprise and excitement. Frost added, "I was so happy that God placed me in this position." We are, too. Congratulations to all of you.
