Serra College Night a huge success

Gardena, CA, November 4, 2014: Tuesday night, the Serra Counseling department welcomed 35 colleges and universities to the Serra College Night. Representatives from several CSUs, UCs, HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges), private institutions (non-denominational, Christian and Catholic). out-of-state institutions, two Military academies (Coast Guard and Naval) and armed forces (US Army) presented to the near-capacity crowd in the Serra gym.

Vivian Bertrand, the Academic Counselor for grades 11 and 12 was impressed with the turnout and response. “I’ve never seen this amount of enthusiasm on the part of the students and parents – apparently word has gotten out that this is a great opportunity to make some early connections for application season.”

Promoting the idea that “College is an eight-year journey that starts freshman year,” the Serra counselors Bertrand and the counselor for grades 9 and 10, Bernard McCrumby, opened College Night to all grade levels. As a result, over 200 Serra students/parents were in attendance. In the spirit of partnership, students from St. Bernard's High School and St. Mary's Academy were invited and attended the event as well.
