Serra Celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Hosts One-Day Hoops Showcase

--
The Southern California community is invited to attend the 2nd Annual MLK Cavalier Extravaganza at Junipero Serra High School on Monday, January 18, 2016. Serra is located at 14830 S. Van Ness Avenue in the city of Gardena.

Serra’s head girls basketball coach, McKinsey Hadley, a state coach of the year winner and CIF-SS champion, knows a good thing when he sees it. “We’re looking forward to hosting a lot of great teams. When you look at their resumes, it’s pretty impressive, and we’re blessed to have a stacked lineup,” said Hadley.

The one-day event features perennial basketball powers and legendary head coaches like the Brea Olinda Wildcats (12-2, 1-0) and Jeff Sink, and the Long Beach Poly Jackrabbits (12-3, 4-0) and Carl Buggs. Both teams are nationally ranked again this year (Brea Olinda - No. 5, Long Beach Poly - 63) and have combined to win multiple state championships in the last decade.

Hadley commented, “I have a great deal of respect for Coach Sink and Coach Buggs, along with all of the other coaches that are competing in our showcase. If you like good basketball, you won’t want to miss it—it will be a fun day,”

The field also includes quality programs like Troy High School of Fullerton, Redondo Union High School of Redondo Beach and St. Anthony High School of Long Beach.
